Qiqqa Entrepreneur Wins 5k

James Jardine from the University of Cambridge in the UK won third prize in the post-graduate category of the Santander University Entrepreneurship Awards.

He scooped 5,000 for his company Qiqqa.com a company that provides free software which helps students and researchers manage information.

The awards aim to support and encourage university students to pursue their business ideas and are open to students from all 58 universities within the Santander programme.

To mark the fifth anniversary of Santander Universities in the UK, Santander chief executive, Ana Botn, announced an additional 1.5m of funding to UK universities, taking its total investment to 7 million during 2012, as well as 100 new mobility grants of 2,500 available to UK students to study abroad.

She also extended the banks support for small businesses with the launch of a new programme to place graduates from the countrys top universities on internships with SMEs across the UK.

The programme to encourage entrepreneurialism amongst graduates is a collaboration between Santander and its university partners and aims to promote the benefits of working for a SME to third-year or recently graduated students, while providing smaller businesses with an injection of talent not always easy to obtain by companies with limited administration resources.

Santander will work with its partner universities to find students and companies who will benefit most from the scheme and will help with placement and administration, including project management, as well as part-funding a basic salary for the students.

Ana Botn said: Youth unemployment and particularly graduate unemployment is one of the most pressing issues for the UK economy. We hope our new programme offering 500 student internships to SMEs can help provide our talented graduate community with the opportunity to gain vital experience in the work place, whilst opening their eyes to the benefits of working for smaller companies.

SMEs have not typically attempted to compete with the graduate recruitment schemes of the big FTSE players and we hope that this initiative will give a wider range of companies the benefit of fresh, young talent.

As the engines of progress and invention, universities have an important role to play in incubating the enterprises of tomorrow. Santander is proud to be supporting and recognising the entrepreneurial skills demonstrated by students through our Entrepreneurship Awards, as well as announcing an additional 1.5 million of funding to support British universities, taking our total investment to 7 million in the UK and 120 million globally, this year.

Entrepreneur, Goal Setting!

Home based business, online business, MLM or if you are in direct sales, you have to be goal oriented to be successful. If you are new or experienced, without a goal the chances are you will be part of the 97% of entrepreneurs that will fail this year. Knowing how to set up your goals, how to break them down will play a major part of all entrepreneur success.

If you are new, you goal may be to quit your job or make enough money so your spouse can stay home. If you are experienced, you goal might be to win a major competition within your organization. Either way, the 1st step is to establish your main goal. The reason is we will work from the top to the bottom to establish a plan of action to achieve your goals.

For the sake of this article, we will use the new entrepreneur as an example. So lets you make $4,000 a month at your current job. To replace your income, you will need to make around $3,500 monthly with your online business. So write $3,500 at the top of a board or a blank piece of paper.

Next we need to figure out how many sales you need to make to create a $3,500 income. So lets say the average sale with your business is $100 and your commission for each sale is $50. So to make $3,500, you need make 70 sales each month which would equal $7,000 in sales and $3,500 in income. Write on your board 70 sales below your main goal.

After that we need to establish how many leads every month you will need to make 70 sales. You find out that your business model average is that you make a sale for every 10 leads (this is just an example) so you will need 700 leads to make $7,000 in sales. Write on your board 700 leads monthly below your monthly sales.

The last step is to breakdown the number of monthly leads into a daily number of leads. So if you need 700 leads every month, than you need 23.3 leads per day. Write 23.3 leads on your board below your monthly leads.

Work with the daily number, celebrate every time you achieve you daily goal with a small reward. If you meet your daily goal, you will meet your monthly goal and first thing you will know is that you will hand your letter of resignation to your boss with a big smile on your face. One last advice, keep your goals very visible to you at all time. Make sure you can see them every day and dont make too much fun of your boss when you quit.

To your success,Ghyslain

One of the most popular opportunities right now has to do with selling online travel memberships. An entrepreneur business opportunity should be fun and enjoyable for you, not to mention provide you with some other benefit rather than just an income, and that is what makes a travel membership business the ideal business for many people. Patience for Entrepreneurs

Its summer and so for that reason Ill break from my insistence on pragmatic advice and write on a topic you might consider fluff. Yet its the biggest mistake I see small business owners make, including me. We have no patience. I think that its a given that a requirement for being an entrepreneur is to have a low grade case of ADD, or in my case, ADHD with an emphasis on the H. And in marketing, that will kill you.

I cant tell you how many times a client tries something and when there are no immediate results says “Well that doesnt work.” Its like lifting weights one day and expecting that tricep cut to develop overnight. Im not suggesting that we all go out and spend a bajillion dollars on advertising during American Idol. But I do think that in order for your PR and marketing tactics to work you have to learn to wait a bit. Here are a few tips to use to figure out if youre too impatient.

1. Are you measuring your campaign results by the number of orders youre getting off each initiative? In a word, DONT. Look at your website hits instead, or the traffic in your store. Whats the first step toward buying your product or service? Do they request a brochure? Do they visit the website? Measure by those “first steps” in the short term.

2. Are you changing your marketing strategy on a weekly or monthly basis? WRONG. You had better have confidence in your strategy (or your consultant) from the start. Nothing works if you dont believe in it 100% from the beginning. Switching around what youre doing on a constant basis and youll end up running circles.

3. Are you relying on only one outreach method? It may work now, but it will stop working eventually. Or youll end up trying one thing after another. BLEND your messaging channels. If youre doing radio, connect it to an online promotion as well. Trying guerilla marketing? Make sure youve got some PR working in conjunction with those “on the ground” techniques.

Particularly in the online world, patience is the key to success. Jay Conrad Levinson, the founder of Guerilla Marketing, believes that patience is the most important characteristic of successful entrepreneurs. Be confident in your approach. Measure it wisely. And then, like that old farmer in the field, be patient and watch the seeds of your marketing work grow.

Take The 100 Day Challenge For Entrepreneur Success

By making a clear visualization of what you want achieve, you start to make the whole progression of building a successful online business easier. If you focus on the next 100 days, and do the 100 day challenge, those 100 days could be important to your future, by the actions you take today and each day over the next 100 days. Bold positive action creates bold results, take the challenge and build your entrepreneur success.

Here are 6 key steps for you to take today to get yourself going in the right direction and then begin your 100 day challenge.

1. Select your online business system. Are you building from the start or maybe you want an online business presence for your existing business or MLM company? There are a few high-quality systems out there, but some are better for some types of business more than others.

2. Decide on your main product. There are several options you can take with your main selling program, even if you have a business you may want to incorporate something else along side with it. Once you are set up and ready to market your main primary program it will make the difference to your online success and can significantly increase your income.

3. Create traffic flow. The most essential ingredient of online business is making traffic flow to your site. No visitors equals no business. There are several ways that you can do this and from within your system you need to choose the best way for you. Ask the team that you join as to what they advocate for you based on your position and the time you have available.

4. Set your targets. Goal setting is essential, set your goals and targets and set them on a daily action plan basis. Having monthly aims and no means of daily monitoring them will hinder your progress.

5. Work on you. As you build your business work on your mindset as well. Individual development is one of the key entrepreneur success factors.

6. Action. Getting a system, main programs, and goals will represent nothing unless you take action on your set plan. The 100 day challenge is all about taking action every day over the next 100 days. In that way you will not only build your business, but you will also set a new practice, a habit of taking consistent daily action for your online business. It is one of the entrepreneur success factors that make the difference, so take the challenge to yourself, take the 100 day challenge.

Lose The Corporate Speak! –an Entrepreneur’s Guide To Getting Noticed In A Noisy Marketplace!

Most entrepreneurs are corporate refugees. All they know is the corporate model. It’s kinda ironic; they choose to leave corporate life to be an entrepreneur, to blaze their own trail and then they fall back on all the boring corporate ways that made them escape from corporate life in the first place! Things like the corporate way of dressing and the corporate way of speaking and the corporate way of eating lunch alone in the food court with the sports section of the paper, unless of course they are taking a big fish client out to lunch or twiddling their thumbs at a business function eating rubber chicken.

The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that it doesn’t have to be that way any more. Why? Because you’re the boss!

There are no rules! Even if there are, you can break them. Why?

Because you’re the boss. Want to start feeling like you really are living the dream? Running your own show? Attracting instead of chasing clients? Heres the best kept secret in business!

Lose the Corporate Speak!

Whats Corporate Speak?

Hi, Im Johnathan Snooze from Boreme Some Moreme and Snore. Our company specializes in the facilitation of soft skills solutions in a proactive environment. Im the project manager. Were a one stop shop for small to medium sized business and our client say we provide excellent customer service. Our core competencies lay in the fields of

Dont be doing that!

Speak to prospects like you are speaking to a good friend. Use simple, direct, colorful language and don’t be afraid of humor. Too many entrepreneurs suffer from Professionalitis. Fortunately, it’s curable. Just talk to the people!

Even though I teach ’em, I don’t get why we have to have courses in public speaking. You’ve been speaking since you were 2. You were walking since you were 2 also. We don’t have courses in Public Walking!

Remember that the corporate guy in the 3 piece suit stops off for a beer on the way home from work just like everyone else. And I guarantee he’s not speaking corporate mumbo jumbo to the bartender or to his buddies when he’s watching the big game.

If you’re preparing a speech and want to test it out, ask a kid. Kids have a natural immunity to professionalitis. Don’t use any words with your business prospects that you couldn’t use with a bright 10 year old. Just be yourself!!! Just talk to people. You’ll connect. In our natural state, we are entertaining and fun and attract naturally. I don’t see many boring kids. But as we get older, especially after we get our first real job, we systematically bury our color.

Mom Entrepreneurs Getting Down To Business

Tips For Mom Entrepreneurs To Get Down To Business
If you’ve ever attempted to get anything done with a toddler around, you know it’s no cakewalk. It’s a challenge to do the dishes or the laundry (shower, anyone?) let alone actual, potentially lucrative work. Here are 5 ways that you can get down to business, even if it means doing these things between phone calls, diaper changes and mealtimes:

1-Find a need and fill it
Stop staring at the competition. Dont take someone elses idea or existing business, tweak it, and try to call it your own. Take a look at your life, your needs, wants and desires. Ask yourself, what would make your life easier? Find out how to help your friends do X if you have created Y? Filling a void in the market is, in theory, a cinch. Fill a need stop procrastinating. And not by thinking about it, talking about it or dreaming about itdo it
.
2-Create A Plan Of Action
Do not write up a business plan. Dont even Google the words “business plan.” Mom entrepreneurs dont have time to put together a lengthy, heady write-up of profits, losses and EBITDA (wha? Take a pen and write out your plan. Get the gist? Then dive in. Try things out. The more you work on your business idea, the more thrilled you will be to see it in actionand it will keep you building.

3-Work With Your Kids, Not Around Them
Stress being the killer that it is, skip it altogether. Dont fret the childcare or sweat the pick-ups/drop-offs. Incorporate your childs schedule into your work day. Teach them to play the Silent Game while youre on the phone. Have them create something you can hang in your office. And when that noisemaker screams during your conference call? Skip the embarrassmenta whole lot of people also have kids.
Theyll understand
Promise.

4-Embrace the web
The interwebs are your friends. You don’t have to get hooked into social media like facebook and twitter, but don’t stay away either. Make sure youre connecting with folks who can help you along in your business. Find local groups like The Founding Moms where you can meet up with fellow mom entrepreneurs face-to-face. Grow your network who will, in turn, help you and your business grow.

5-Meet up with fellow mom entrepreneurs
Theres nothing like meeting someone in-person. You should embrace the web and all that it has to offer. But, get out of the house. Not only will it bring you great joy to smile at other human beings, but your kids will appreciate staring at new walls, too. Tell us your trials and tribulations of being a mom entrepreneur, then shake hands with like minded people and know your not alone.
Youll thank yourself.

Thinking of food all the time? So now make it your business!

Food joints are loved by all and have an ever rising demand if quality is not compromised. You may choose to start up with a couple of offerings like beverages and snacks and later on tread into being a bakery and concessionary shop.

Perhaps the easiest of all food joint-offerings is beverages. Scores of soft drink concentrates are available to choose from. From refreshing lemon to tangy orange these soft drink concentrates can be mixed with water or plain soda and served chilled. Invigorating roasted cumin concentrate is a delight in the scorching summers. Fruit flavored soft drinks garnished well not only quench the thirsty throat but also sooth the sore eyes. All you have to do is mix them up in the right quality and serve!

Instant fruit drink powder is a wonderful piece in your kitchen. Blend it with seasonal fruits or canned fruits, garnish it well and serve to quench the thirst of your clients. Canned fruit pulp is another option for beverage. Add the right amount of water or milk and you have a thick shake to serve. If the location of your food joint is blessed with plenty of seasonal fruits then serving fresh juices would prove to be more cost effective. Having the fruit juice extraction machine in an open space where the clients can see their glass being filled will be admired by them. This will demonstrate them of your hygiene standards and quality.

Flavored milk shakes are another popular offering at food joints. Chocolate and strawberry are the most common ones. You can try lots of new flavors by adding flavoring agents. Throw in some crushed nuts, fruit pieces or chocolate chunks to make new milk shake flavor each month.

Beverages are best served with crunchy wafers or biscuits. Bake them in-house or order them from a supplier simply make sure they are fresh. A platter of assorted biscuits coupled with a tasteful strawberry shake is the choice over a long conversation.

Jelly can be another interesting offering at your food joint. Just buy some jelly crystals and make jelly of distinctive shapes. Children will surely be fond of these jellies. Also jelly pieces can be mixed with milk shake for a fruity flavor.

You can find suitable vendors for all your requirements at the B2B portals over the internet. Choose your vender wisely and watch your business grow.
